agroforestry

The cultivation of trees at wide spacings among grazing animals or crops (cf. farm woodlands). With good management the trees are grown with little or no loss of agricultural productivity, they provide shelter and shade for grazing animals, biodiversity is increased and traditional landscapes are created.
