biogas

A methane-rich gas produced by the decomposition (digestion) of organic matter in the absence of air, ie. in a sealed tank (digester). Suitable feedstocks include food waste, manure, slurry and crop residues. Woody matter is unsuitable because it is too resistant to decomposition.
