biosphere reserve

An area nominated by a national government and designated under the ‘Man and the Biosphere’ programme of the Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization of the UN (UNESCO). England has two biosphere reserves, Braunton Burrows in North Devon and the North Norfolk Coast, both designated in 1976.
