cement

A mixture of minerals, mainly chalk or limestone (for lime) and clay (for silicates including aluminium silicates), heated to a high temperature in air to give a clinker which is then finely ground. An impure limestone naturally containing clay may be the raw material. Cement is a constituent of concrete and mortar.
