conservation area

An area recognized in the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 as being ‘of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance’. Trees may make a significant contribution to the character of a conservation area. Six weeks’ prior notice (Section 211 notice) has to be given to the local authority for any works proposed to trees in a conservation area.
