British Standards Institution
(BSI)
The BSI began in 1901 as the Engineering Standards Committee, the first standards institution in the world. It now administers about 27,000 current British standards (BSs) and adds about 1,700 new ones each year. The BSI describes itself as having ‘grown into a leading global independent business services organization providing standard-based solutions in more than 140 countries’.
