park (ancient history)
From Norman times, an enclosed area for keeping semi-wild animals, particularly fallow deer. There was more emphasis on landscape and ceremonial hunting in Tudor times, while parks as art forms are associated with landscape designers from the 18thC onwards such as Capability Brown.
