quantitative risk assessment

Risk assessments relying on quantitative (probabilistic) modelling, typically of complex engineering processes and systems (cf. qualitative risk assessment). Numerical estimates are made of the probability that a defined harm will result from the realization of specific hazards. Data must be sufficiently reliable and detailed for the purpose, and the mathematical methods used open to scrutiny.
