environmental impact

Any change to the environment due to human activity or natural events. Human environmental impact is sometimes defined as: (number of people × mean consumption per person), or total consumption of food, water, fuel and all other resources. Both the human population and consumption rates continue to increase, with numerous consequences.

This definition is abridged from A – Z of tree terms: A companion to British arboriculture.
