dark-sky reserve

Accreditations given by various bodies including the US-based International Dark-Sky Association and the UK-based Dark Sky Discovery Partnership. An aim of dark-sky accreditation is to reduce night-time light pollution through better lighting practices. No part of the UK or Ireland is entirely free of light pollution. In the British reserves ‘light domes are present around the horizon but do not stretch to the zenith’, while in the darkest Irish reserve ‘light domes are dim and restricted to the sky close to the horizon’.
