It has been estimated, in relation to the widely cited target of limiting global warming to no more than 2oC by the end of the 21stC, that there is a 20% chance of exceeding the target if 886Gt carbon dioxide (241Gt carbon) are emitted between 2000 and 2050. By the end of 2010 about a third of this budget had been emitted.
