intergeneric hybrid
A hybrid between taxa in different genera. Such a hybrid is given a new genus name formally preceded by a multiplication sign ×, although the sign is often omitted. For instance, the hybrid between Nootka cypress (Chamaecyparis nootkatensis) and Monterey cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) is ×Cupressocyparis leylandii (leyland cypress).
