Kretzschmaria deusta

(Ustulina deusta)

An Ascomycete fungus, exceptional among Ascomycetes for being able to cause root rot and butt rot in broadleaf trees including beech (Fagus sylvatica) and lime (Tilia spp.). K. deusta is a particularly dangerous fungus because the fruiting bodies are inconspicuous.
