Kyoto protocol
An international agreement under the auspices of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, agreed at Kyoto Japan in 1997 and setting binding targets (for signatories) for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Countries including the US and Australia were not signatories, and emerging economies were exempt.
