local site

An area of local importance for nature conservation, either a Local Wildlife Site or Local Geological Site. Local Wildlife Sites are typically selected by the local Wildlife Trust or its equivalent and have various names. They are declared by the local authority and identified in the local plan. The criteria for inclusion vary from county to county. They are protected largely by the planning system and forest policy.
