millennium green

At the time of the millennium 245 areas of green space were established for the benefit of local people, funded by the Big Lottery Fund. They are usually owned or leased, and run, by a charitable trust set up for the purpose. Many of the trusts rely on volunteer labour. The largest millennium green in England is 13ha of grazed marsh near Halesworth in Suffolk
