National planning policy framework
(NPPF)
The NPPF was published on 27 March 2012. With a few exceptions it cancelled and replaced the earlier Planning policy guidance and Planning policy statements, while about 100 circulars containing policy guidance remained extant. The NPPF makes a presumption in favour of sustainable development, which it interprets to mean making land available for economic growth and supplying the housing required for present and future generations, while conserving our natural and historic environment, increasing biodiversity and mitigating climate change.
