oak wilt

(Ceratocystis fagacearum)

A wilt disease of oaks, thought to originate in Mexico or Central America. Red oaks are more susceptible than the white oaks.The leaves of an infected tree wilt and turn brown, and the tree dies within a season. Oak wilt is not present in Europe and is a potential alien invasive species.
