organic standard
A growing standard in which the application of biocides and inorganic fertilizers is largely replaced with cultural practices to maintain the health of the crop and reduce the trouble caused by pests, diseases and weeds. Practices include crop rotation, encouragement of beneficials, soil improvement, use of resistant varieties and good hygiene.
