In a roof truss, one of two vertical posts either side of the centre-line of the truss, from the horizontal beam near the base of the truss (tie beam or collar beam) to the rafters, and connected at the top by a second horizontal beam (strainer beam) to give a rectangular gap in the centre of the truss.
