seasoning (firewood)

Seasoned wood has higher heating value than green wood when burnt as firewood. The seasoning of firewood is relatively rapid if it is crosscut since most moisture is lost through the end grain. Different woods have different green moisture contents and dry out at different rates; low-density woods tend to dry out relatively quickly.
