smoke (regulation)

About half of households in Britain live in smoke control areas, in which it is an offence to cause smoke to be emitted from a chimney, and coal and wood are not permitted as domestic fuels. A smoke control order may be issued by the local authority for non-compliance but such an order is not applicable to a domestic bonfire (which may instead be a statutory nuisance).
