species selection

The matching of tree species or seed origin to a planting site, made more difficult and risky, but more important, by the prospect of significant climate change within the lifetime of the trees to be planted. Some candidate species (eg. Corsican pine, Nothofagus spp.) are problematical because, while the changing climate is expected to favour them, it already appears to have favoured their pathogens more.
