global carbon budget

It has been estimated, in relation to the widely cited target of limiting global warming to no more than 2oC by the end of the 21stC, that there is a 20% chance of exceeding the target if 886Gt carbon dioxide (241Gt carbon) are emitted between 2000 and 2050. By the end of 2010 about a third of this budget had been emitted.
