house longhorn beetle (Hylotrupes bajulus)
A non-native species of wood borer sometimes found in the timbers of recently built houses, when known as a kind of woodworm. The beetle prefers the relatively high resin content of conifer wood (especially pine) less than 10 years old. The beetle is most common in the south-east of England.
