National vegetation classification

The standard classification of the British vegetation, developed in the 1980s and published in five volumes, including Volume 1 British plant communities: Woodlands and scrub (Rodwell, 1991). The other volumes describe Mires and heaths (2); Grasslands and montane communities (3); Aquatic communities, swamps and tall-herb fens (4); and Maritime communities and vegetation of open habitats (5).
