qualifications
The range of qualifications in arboriculture is subject to change as the qualifications and credit framework (QCF) replaces the National qualifications framework (NQF). An up-to-date summary is maintained on the website of the Arboricultural Association (AA; www.trees.org). Apart from the criteria employed by the QCF, the AA recognizes qualifications in three categories: vocational, which are competence-based (see National Proficiency Tests Council); professional, which are administered by industry bodies such as the Royal Forestry Society and the AA itself (see Technician's certificate); and academic, which are studied at college or university.
